Campus

Walking back from the faculty of education I noticed a rather unusual  sighting, a pig! Just in between the LRC and the CMIST building there was a black and white little piggy resting theres.Yes a pig! I thought how unusual to see a pig on campus. It’s not anykind of pig either it’s a statue of a pig. Why? Well I don’t know  and I am hoping someone can answer this question.

Is part of an art display? Has it been misplaced? Is it part of an elaborated joke? Is it the first one of a long serie?

But what about the ducks? Are the  ducks scared of pigs? HAs edge hill decided to replace the emblematic ducks by a pig?

So many questions but so  little knoweldge!

Did you know you can walk directly from St helens road to the FoH or the back of the Rose Theatre? It is not so obvious that the gate lead to the uni and strangly doesn’t appear on the uni campus map. If you are walking from the town centre and going to the Faculy of Health or Education you can save a good 10mn!

I took a few pictures so you can identify this secret entrance….

250 m no just walk in!

No need to walk an other 250 metres!

Walk past the house

And here you are!

And here you are!

The Ormskirk advertiser reported yesterday on the latest development plan for Edge Hill University. The article talks about the 2020 development plan. According to Ormskirk advertiser the council has finally agreed some new construction work under strict rules. As you might know the uni is near the green belt and therefore limited to what and where they are able to build.

The compromise is any new building near the green belt area will have to be underground. This include a new swimming pool for the paralympics training camp in 2012 and student accommodation. The article also mention an other controversial decision, to drain the lake to build a 4 floors underground car park. This was the only new car park the council would allow.

According to Edge Hill Development Manager, Mrs Avril de Poisson, this would also “unfortunately” mean the end of the ducks on campus. It is not said what the Uni plan to do to relocate the friendly ducks.

Do you think the uni will still be the same without the crazy ducks?

It’s this time of the year when everyone has hundred of assignments to do! So it’s off to the library to borrow some books. As you go upstairs you can see people with a look of desperation running in between the aisles to find that elusive book. 372.26, 372.26 you can hear them mutter. After a while they go back to the catalogue checking the number or maybe looking for other suitable books.

Why? Oh why? they say. Why the book I need is never where I want it? Why oh, why all the copies of that title are out? What shall I do?

Ultimately they just wonder aimlessly picking up books that look clever and full of inspiration. Most will put it back on the shelf other will just put them wherever there is an empty space. Other will just drop the book on the floor.

It’s March Time, it’s Library chaos time!

I was working today for the uni doing the infamous campus tour. The focus was on media and we took the students to the TV studio. I had never been there and I thought they were quite impressive.

As you walk in the studio you can see a replica of the good morning sofa…  The studio equipment is great with three camera and lots of lights hanging from the ceiling (they must be good if someone has gone through the trouble of attaching them up there) As part of the equipment you have a blue screen which allow you to do all kind of special effects including practice for the weather forecast.

I was quite impress by this display of high-tech equipment and I which I could tell you all about what it does but I can’t!

I took a few pictures which I thought you might find interesting:
