Accommodation

Coming back to Uni after 2 months on placement was quite bizarre. As per usual the car park seems to be over flowing. Luckily for me I don’t have to worry about that as I take the train from the pool everyday. The centre of the campus was no longer a building site (nearly) and surprisingly it looked like their was no other construction work going on!

Well that’s because I hadn’t pay enough attention, behind the Rose Theatre I discovered the making of some new student accommodation (from what I have been told) I heard that they should be finished for the beginning of next year. It is great news for any one starting uni in 2010 as there has never been enough student accommodation for all of the first year.

I am not sure of any of the info above (apart from the construction work) so they could be building a pub or a cinema or even an admin block? Who knows? Do you? If you do leave a comment!

accom_keys.jpgNo I am not, I luckily live in a lovely flat in the city centre and I am not looking to move out.

I read the Hi forum and quite a lot of you are looking for a place to live for next year. If you are lucky you already have a room in the Halls of residence on campus or you are waiting to receive the letter once you get your result on the 14th August.

Some lucky or unlucky people live within the 15 miles radius of uni and are not able to get accommodation on campus. They would have therefore received what is being described on the forum byJess, Riley Deanoo, Leanne as the “letter of death”.   If you did (d0), you can put your name down on the waiting list and you will know on the 22nd if you do get a room. Slightly risky and in my opinion too much stress for little reward.

If you have received the so called letter or didn’t get a place in the halls don’t worry there are plenty of shared houses in Ormskirk. Or you can apply for a place at St Andrews Garden in Liverpool. So when you are looking for a place to live this is what I wish I had asked but didn’t know about it at the time:

Is the rent inclusive of bills, council tax, internet?  Weekly or monthly? Can  you pay a retainer over the summer or do you have to pay full rent.  How long is the contract for? How much is the deposit? Does the deposit include communal parts or just your room? Who else lives in the house?

The student accommodation team will be running workshops and also have a list of recommended proprieties in the area. It is stressful to look for a place to live but also great fun cause you get to see all sort of houses.

I am sure most of you have been on a campus tour so you know what the accommodation looks like. If you haven’t why not drive to Ormskirk and come to the next open day on  18th August 2008?

The student halls are  Clough and Stanley – 103 rooms on the upper floors of the Main building.

You will be able to visit the rooms on the open day so that’s a good reason to come isn’t it?

Accommodation

Today is the day where everyone is going to go on-line to apply for their accommodation on campus.

Key to success

I thought I would put all of the info together to make people life easier

So here is the link:

http://www.edgehill.ac.uk/study/accommodation

Mike N “the key master” says on the Hi forum

“Once you log in you’ll be taken to your “My Account” page. At the top of the page there’s a link to apply for accommodation. That will take you to a form. As much information as we know is pre-filled (UCAS number, your name, DoB etc) so you’ll just have to choose what type of accommodation you require – self catered/catered, en-suite/shared bathroom – and say if you have any extra dietary, religious, cultural or other needs.”

You will have to make a first choice and second choice. (A-E):
