As I’m half way through my summer I thought it would be time to get on with some research for my dissertation. I’m doing my dissertation on Irish nationalists and how the U.S. President Woodrow Wilson affected their activity. In order to do this dissertation I need to carry out the necessary research and for me that means going to Dublin and looking through the archives of letters, diaries and newspapers. I also need to have a vast bibliography of secondary sources so I need to read up on the period I’m looking at, the people involved and get historian’s opinions.

I have so far read 1 and 1/2 books! I have planned to go to the library one day next week in order to get all the books I need and print off articles that are beneficial to my research. At the minute the library is having a refurbishment so all printing is free during the summer which is very good and will save me some money! lol As you know I have been able to get myself some temporary work and when I get paid I will be going to pay for my trip to Dublin. I’m very excited to be carrying out my own research and going to Dublin. Doing a dissertation is said to be very rewarding and I’m looking forward to starting next year.

Well I’ve finally had some work, as you may have noticed from the lack of blogs! So firstly sorry about that. But I finally after a long hunt have some temp work! Woo! I’m very happy as my overdraft was in a terrible way! lol So after registering with all them agencies it has paid off. I’ve worked at two different places now. Last Wednesday I started at a metal place working with aluminium, it basically was aiding the machines (putting tins in, taking them out, boxing them up) now it sounds very boring but to be honest it was actually ok! The days went by quick and the people were lovely! The hours weren’t too bad either half 7 till half 4 Monday to Thursday and Friday was half 7 till 2! However they didn’t need me as of yesterday and I am now somewhere else!

The second place is a packing place, a very small company, and we are sticking labels to boxes and packing them up, again it doesnt sound much fun but today went pretty quick the hours are 8 till 5 all week which isnt as good as the first place but beggars cant be choosers! lol So yea thats been my week so far and Friday is payday!!! So I will finally have a little bit of money to spend! or save (which is what I should be doing really!) Anyways I’ll let you all know if my job changes! Hope your all enjoying the summer!

All those people graduating got their results last week some time, but for us 1st and 2nd years we all got our results yesterday and oh how nerve-racking that was. You get sent a letter with a given time slot to log on to your account and view for results. I was able to log on early around 9 o clock so I wasn’t waiting around all day. Although I don’t think I got any sleep on Sunday night! lol.

On my course you do four 30 credited modules and to carry on to next year you have to pass all four modules. Thankfully I did, I got three 2:1s and one 2:2, so I was absolutely over the moon with that and altogether it works out at 63% and I have passed second year wit ha 2:1. Its an amazing feeling knowing that all the stress and hard work has paid off! Now I just need to focus on getting some dissertation research done over the summer and I’m all set to return in September! Can’t wait!!

Anyways it will soon be all your results day or some of you if your doing B-Tecs may already know your results. But I know how awful it is having to wait so long just keep your self occupied have a great summer relax and spend time with your friends because I’m sure results day will be a great day for all of you and you will soon be off to Edge Hill to join in the antics of Fresher’s Week!
