Out and about!

So, I finished for Easter on Thursday just gone. So technically I could be at home relaxing, waiting for my holiday to come. However, I have three assignments to complete over Easter and as I am on holiday for the final week of the Easter break I decided it would be wise to stay at uni for this week to make sure I get some work done, and also three of the girls I live with are also staying so I’m not alone.

Today I have done some of my assignment, so, feeling quite impressed with the work I had done, me and my house mates decided to go out for tea, we went to a little place on the outskirts of Liverpool called the Netherton it was only about 15mins away from uni and it was great! On a Wednesday they do a curry and a pint for a fiver! I could not turn that down so I had a good chicken tikka massala, we all really enjoyed it, everything was very cheap and good quality, and on the way back we drove to the tesco at litherland for a chocolate cake for dessert. So today has been a really good day!

Tomorrow, hopefully I will have finished one of my assignments, which is a 2000 word essay; ‘Was Alfred the Great a good king?’ I have really enjoyed reading up on King Alfred it is one of the topics in my medieval module that I was really interested in. Anyways I just thought I would give you all a quick update J. I will blog soon.  Steph J

Last week before Easter!

So there is an awful lot going on around campus this week, it is the last academic week before Easter, and im excited about the thought of having a few weeks off!

Ok so whats been going on – the big one – top priority – Elections!! Time for the students of Edge Hill to vote for who they want to be; President, Vice Presidents, Representatives for different faculties and various other posts.  It is a very important time as it allows every student to have a say in how the university is run and organised, it is also an important time for those students running for these posts, they have had to organise a manifesto, provide a successful campaign and try and receive as many votes as possible. Voting has begun today, but tonight is question time where the students can ask the students running anything about their campaign etc. So i think i will vote later in the week.

Secondly, – its St Patrick’s Day on Wednesday! And tonight its shindig which is an organised night out to Southport with a St. Patrick’s Day theme, but Wednesday night is social night so im sure the venue will be packed out with all the sports teams.

Finally, Thursday night is last night in the bar! Which if it is anything like the Christmas one, it will be a really good night, everyone is always really happy and excited to have a few weeks off. I will have also finished my timed essay that day so i will be rewarding myself with a couple of drinks.

So, that is the plan for this week, i hope it sounds like something you all want to enjoy next year! Anyways  i will blog soon.

Second Year

So, this week has been an important one … its module choice time, which means for me, doing a single hons history degree, that I pick 4 modules that I want to study next year, out of 6. I have decided to go with the rise and fall of the soviet union, the republic in danger: The United States, 1800-1941, the rise and fall of the British Empire and conflict and social change: France since the Popular Front 1936 until the present day.  So quite a variety, I am really looking forward to studying each module, the other options that were available were; ideals and self interest: US Foreign Policy and Expansionism Since 1840.

I have another assignment next week before we break up for Easter it is a timed essay, which means that we have been given a topic which for this assignment is the cold war between 1947-1962. However, the question is unknown until I get to the seminar. So I need to go through all my notes and do lots of reading. The essay is done in exam conditions too which is quite scary but it prepares me for when I sit the examinations in May. Speaking of exams, it is results day today, I know a couple of people who have done really well back home, I am sure you have all done really well and are more excited about the prospects of university. I know I was. Anyways go out and celebrate you deserve it after the hard work you put in! Blog soon.

March

Hello!

Unfortunately i haven’t got much to blog about this week, February was an awful month for assignments! Haha i think i had 4 to hand, one each week. So now it’s March (which I can’t believe, i still feel like im in freshers week!) i have a little break before i need to start doing lots more reading and writing for the next assignments i only have 5 assignments left for the year then i have the dreaded exams in May. I can’t wait for easter now, i finish on the 18th of March so i am practically counting down the days, especially seen as my holiday is over Easter, im off to Egypt, Sharm El Sheikh, well excited, been dying for a decent tan and it will be good just to chill and relax for a week!

This week i have been looking at the Black Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. i really enjoyed looking  at this, i think the topic is extremely interesting, I have also looked at socialism in the nineteenth century, looking at Marx  and many other European socialists.

I have been thinking about doing some volunteering as well, volunteering as very beneficial thing to do, I have volunteered once before in a charity shop but stopped when i came to uni, i have been thinking about something in a school or a place that deals with children so i will have to let you know how well this goes. Anyways, off out, blog soon. Steph J
